Transferring a .uk domain name to Koboh

The first step to moving your domain names to Koboh is to create an order with us. Transferring a .uk domain name is free of charge, and you will not be charged again until you are next due to renew the domain.

  1. Login to your Koboh Client Area and click on Domains > Transfer Domain to Us from the menu. If you don't have a customer account with us yet, you can register here.

  2. Enter the Domain Name you'd like to transfer and click Add to Cart.

An Authorisation Code is not required for .uk domains.

  1. You can add further domains to transfer or purchase before completing checkout - but please be sure to read the appropriate sections of this document for the type of domain you are transferring.

  2. Checkout to complete the first part of this process. If you're a new client you'll be asked to Configure the domain during checkout - you will need to supply the correct registrant details.

  3. Now you need to contact your current registrar and ask them to update the IPS TAG to ENOM on the domain you are transferring.

Why do I have to create an order if moving a domain is free?

The reason we ask you to create an order is to ensure that we know who to assign the domain name to when the IPS tags are changed. If you change your tags without creating an order, it will result in your domain name becoming "Detagged" as our systems won't know what to do with it.

My current registrar wants to charge me to change the IP TAG on my domain name?

Your current registrar is contractually obliged to retag the domain in a "reasonable" time, though they may charge you for the "privilege".

It costs a registrar £0 to retag a domain name, if your current registrar is going to charge you to leave then we'd recommend that you go straight to the .uk registry, Nominet and pay them £10 + VAT directly.

This has 2 advantages; 1) they'll action it immediately and 2) it might help discourage the practice of charging to leave, which we believe is unethical - even if it doesn't at least your current registrar doesn't make any money from you leaving.

If you don't already have a Nominet account, you will need to sign-up using the email address of the registered contact for the domain you wish to retag.

What information do I need to give my current registrar?

You may be asked to provide nameserver information. If this is the case, you can find details of the correct nameservers in this guide.

Once the domain name has been retagged, you will be able to manage it through your client area. If you plan to host the site/emails with us, simply change the nameservers to ours (if this hasn't been done already) and it will automatically work with your hosting (you will need to have purchased hosting).

NOTE: Please see Nominet's terms and conditions before registering or renewing a UK domain name.
